From tired timber to flawless luxury finish — precision sanding to bare timber,

eco-friendly staining, and fast, no-mess results

After Before

“Your deck isn’t just wood — it’s the centrepiece of your outdoor lifestyle. We deliver results that not only protect but also elevate the beauty and value of your home.”

After Before

Why your deck needs more than a quick coat

Sun and rain break timber down fast.

UV light destroys lignin (the “glue” that holds timber fibres together), causing colour fade, checking, and splintering.

A quality coating is your deck’s UV shield.

More pigment = better UV block and longer colour life.

That’s why we only recommend two best‑in‑class, water‑based systems from Intergrain.

Our Proven Process (What happens when you book)

Step 1 – On-site inspection & product consultation (with live samples)

We walk the deck with you, assess its current condition, and identify the existing finish (oil, stain, or paint).

We sand a small test patch to bare timber so you can see the true colour and grain before coating.

We apply side-by-side samples of Intergrain UltraDeck Timber Oil and Intergrain NaturalStain so you can

choose your preferred look and maintenance interval.

Step 2 – Precision sanding to bare timber

Using professional sanding machinery, we remove greyed fibres and previous coatings to create an even, sound surface for superior adhesion.

This forms the foundation of a durable finish that resists peeling and wears evenly over time.

Step 3 – Dust extraction & surface prep

We thoroughly blow down the deckand check surface conditions so it’s 100% ready for coating.

Step 4 – Professional application

We apply the selected Intergrain system to the correct film build, observing manufacturers’ dry times and weather windows.

For full-sun or poolside decks, we recommend a third coat to boost UV and moisture protection.

Final quality check and a clean, tidy site on completion.

The only two systems we recommend

We use and recommend Intergrain UltraDeck Timber Oil and Intergrain NaturalStain.

Both are water‑based (fast‑dry, low odour, easy clean‑up) and engineered for Australian conditions.

Each has different strengths:

Option A — UltraDeck Timber Oil (Water‑based oil)

Look: Natural, satin finish that highlights grain

Feel: Premium “oiled timber” aesthetic

Longevity: Excellent; designed to outlast traditional solvent oils

Best for: Clients who love a natural look and visible grain, reasonably even timber colour, light to moderate exposure

Trade‑offs: Less pigment than a stain, so it shows the timber’s history more clearly (water marks, previous uneven weathering). Shorter intervals between refresher coats than a stain.

Option B — NaturalStain (Water‑based semi‑transparent stain)

Look: Modern, even colour with more pigment (stronger UV shield)

Feel: Rich, uniform tone that still shows timber character

Longevity: Maximum among water‑based deck finishes in this class

Best for: Harsher exposures (full sun, pool surrounds); weathered or patchy decks where we want to even out the colour; clients aiming for longest time between maintenance

Trade‑offs: Higher material cost; slightly more “tinted” look vs an oil.

Real‑world recommendation: If the timber is too weathered, patchy or stained from past coatings/water marks, we’ll guide you toward NaturalStain to achieve a consistent, premium result. If the boards are in good shape and you want the most natural grain pop, UltraDeck Oil is beautiful.

Side-by-side comparison

Typical maintenance windows

Why we sand to bare timber first?

Bonding: Coatings stick and wear best on clean, sound timber.

Even absorption: Prevents patchiness, maximises uniform colour.

Longevity: A proper foundation means fewer failures like peeling.

Finish quality: Smooth under‑foot, safer, and better looking.

In rare cases, a tiny amount of deep, stubborn residue may remain after the first restoration.

That residue naturally releases over time; at your next refresh, we sand again to further perfect the surface.

High‑exposure decks (full sun / pools)

For harsh conditions we recommend a third coat to build extra UV and moisture defence.

This is especially helpful around pools and north‑facing decks.

Are these “proper oils”?

Both systems are water‑based modern technologies. The “oil” in UltraDeck is the binder/resin that cures in the wood; the carrier is water (not turps). NaturalStain is also water‑based but with more pigment for a longer‑lasting colour.

Which lasts longer?

In like‑for‑like conditions, stains with more pigment generally last longer because pigment blocks UV. That’s why NaturalStain usually stretches the maintenance window compared to an oil.

FAQ image

Will it peel?

With correct prep and application, these systems weather by wearing down, not peeling like old varnishes. When the colour dulls, we clean and apply a quick refresh coat.

How is Deck Renew QLD different from other deck companies?

We’re not “just sanding and staining guys.” We sand decks back to bare timber with professional equipment, not just the surface, then apply premium Intergrain NaturalStain for a flawless finish that lasts. Our focus is speed, cleanliness, and craftsmanship — the kind of result budget providers simply can’t match.

Why do you sand back to bare timber?

Because it’s the only way to achieve a brand-new surface that bonds properly with stain. This ensures maximum absorption, prevents peeling, and gives your deck a showroom-quality finish that lasts years longer.

Can you stain over my current deck coating?

In virtually all cases, we aim to sand your deck back to bare timber — giving you a pristine, brand-new surface ready for our premium finish. That’s the ideal scenario, because it ensures the deepest adhesion and the most durable result.

However, in some spots the old coatings may be far too degraded or embedded to remove fully on the first pass. In these cases, small patches of coating remnants may remain. Over time, those will naturally flake or lift, and during the next maintenance cycle we can fully clean and sand them away, gradually improving the uniformity and strength of the finish.

Starting from as fresh a surface as possible is always our goal — and every time we return, we make that surface even better.

How long does the whole process take?

Most jobs are completed in 1–2 days, depending on the deck size and weather conditions.

Is your stain safe for kids, pets, and plants?

Yes. Intergrain NaturalStain is water-based and low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds), making it safe for families and environmentally conscious homes.

Do you guarantee your work?

Absolutely. We stand by our workmanship and products. If there’s an issue with the application or finish, we’ll come back and fix it — no fuss.

How much does a deck restoration cost?

Our premium service starts at $44 per sqm for sanding and staining. Prices vary depending on deck size, condition, and extras like verticals, handrails, and steps. What you get is not “cheap work” — it’s a professional restoration that lasts.

Can you restore decks around pools or in full sun?

es — in fact, that’s our specialty. For high-exposure decks, we recommend a third coat of Intergrain for maximum protection against water and UV. This ensures a longer-lasting, even finish.

Do you offer colour options?

Yes. We provide colour consultations to help you choose from Intergrain’s premium range. Whether you want a natural timber look or a modern darker tone, we ensure an even, professional finish.

How often should I maintain my deck after restoration?

With premium products and correct application, most decks only need light maintenance every 24–36 months. Over time, if any older coatings lift, we’ll sand them away in your next maintenance cycle, gradually achieving an even more flawless surface.
